Purpose For Establishing the UJEEC

Summary of Activities

In todayfs modern society where globalization is more prevalent, distance between Japan and many foreign countries becomes nearer to the U.S.A.  It is not unusual that the number of Japanese who live abroad for extended periods of time is increasing, as well as foreigners who take up residence in Japan.  With this comes the importance of the need for those people to become bilingual.  However, without proper knowledge of how culture influences language, there is a greater risk of miscommunication and cultural embarrassment.
Language was born as a means of communication among people of a common communal society as a way to preserve a lifestyle and is passed down through generations from parent to child.  Regional climates and religious beliefs are factors that greatly influence the usage of vocabulary and grammar.
In January 2006, the U.S.- Japan Educational Exchange Council was established to help further the prosperity of an international society between the U.S. and Japan.  The UJEEC supports activities to assist people who want to study English and American culture and those who want to study Japanese and Japanese culture.  And by this, helping to bridge the gap between nations.
